Post 5: What music gets you going in the morning? What lyrics inspire you?

Take a moment to think about the power of silence (and how hard it is for many people to find a quiet space).

I'm writing this "thought for the day" post outside a restaurant and there are songs over my head...

Don't bring me down  Whoo hoo

All of these lines across my face, tell you the story about who I am...

Take a moment and reflect:
What do I allow into my mind?
What lyrics influence my mind  and push aside my inner voice?
Link to the lyrics
What practices could I change in my life?
What if I didn't turn on the radio or my music?
What if I listened to poetry? Spoken words?   TED Talks?

Dr. Daniel Amen writes about the power of negative thoughts.  That's one type of "toxin"...

Extended Activity:  The 12 Prescriptions
Dr. Amen also points to research that shows that certain lyrics and rhythms are "toxic" to the brain.  What comments do you have?
What comes to your mind when you think about these issues?

Here's what one student responded:
"Don't mess with my music!"

Let's go to the next Thought For the Day about "Automatic Negative Thoughts"

Post 3: "How do you work best? Standing? With quiet music in the background? What do you think about this school environment?"

Today's thought for the day is not focused on a book.   It is about a school.   Have a look at these photos...  Can you imagine working (and playing and learning) in this type of school?

Post 1: Introduction to the Thought For the Day Process

What else can you do?
This series of posts will introduce you to the idea of "Thought for the Day" at European Leadership School (QBE Qualified by Experience Education).

1.  The student looks at a book or poster.
2.  The student selects a quote for that day to study
3.  The student sits quietly, thinking about the meaning of the quote and puts the idea into his own words.  "For me, this quote means...."
4.  At the end of the day, the group gathers and reflects about additional thoughts about the "Thought for the Day."

It is said that it is better to have fewer items than too many.   The aim is to have fewer than 7 items for you to look at on each post.

Less is more.

The list of books will be given as photos, since many people SEE more than they READ.  You are encouraged to scan the list until you find something that appeals to you.

See Hartjen's websitea about SOcial IQ
and his view of COMMUNICATION
The list is not complete and you are invited to suggest additional titles.  You can also add your comments.

Dennis Yuzenas has summarized Glasser
about CHOICE:  teachers discuss with
students what they will study and how they
will be tested.  HERE is a PDF
The aim is to keep the blog posts on this blog to a minimum, perhaps fewer than 10 posts per year, so that you can return and perhaps get more by focusing on another part of the post.

The point face of this font is large so you can quickly scan it (not more than about ten words per line on the page).

The eleven points (compare the 14 points
for management at wikipedia
and MINDTOOLS
The different colors and BOLD or ITALIC is intended to give you some variety when you scan this post.

This is the book with Dr. Deming's
11 points for Labor.  This book is the only
place that I've found where this list appears.
